University of Vienna

The Computational Communication Science Lab is an interdisciplinary research network at the Department of Communication of the University of Vienna. The lab aims to advance our understanding of various antecedents, processes, and consequences of mediated/unmediated communication behaviors on human attitudes, cognitions, and behaviors using computational approaches in a social science framework.

About the team

Annie Waldherr is Professor of Computational Communication Science at the Institute for Journalism and Communication Science at the University of Vienna. Her research revolves around the broader areas of digitalised publics, political communication, technology and science communication as well as computational social science.

Annie is co-leader of WP4 (Agent-Based Modeling).

Hajo Boomgaarden is Professor of Methods in the Social Sciences with a focus on Text Analysis at the Department of Communication, University of Vienna. Much of his work revolves around the analysis of (news) media coverage and its effects on political cognitions, attitudes and behaviour.

Hajo is co-leader of WP8 (Communication & Dissemination).

Aytalina Kulichkina is a researcher at the Computational Communication Science Lab at the University of Vienna. Her research interests include political communication, social media, and computational methods in social science.

In the WHAT-IF project, Aytalina is contributing to agent-based modeling and simulations in WP4.

Jula Luehring is a researcher at the Computational Communication Science Lab and the Complexity Science Hub, Vienna. Her research focuses on digital information ecospheres, particularly the interplay of emotional dynamics and algorithmic biases in the spreading of misinformation on social media.

She is mainly involved in the communication and dissemination (WP8) of WHAT-IF, but also contributes to the agent-based modeling (WP4).
