University of Konstanz

The Social Data Science Lab is an interdisciplinary research center within the Department of Politics and Public Administration at the University of Konstanz. The lab studies human behavior using new computational methods. Its researchers specialize in computer science, psychology, physics, political science, and communication science, and are based at the University of Konstanz, Graz University of Technology, and the Complexity Science Hub Vienna.
About the team

David Garcia Becerra is Professor for Social and Behavioral Data Science at the department of Politics and Public Administration at the University of Konstanz. He is also external faculty at the Complexity Science Hub Vienna and at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center. David is interested in the computational analysis and modelling of human behavior, in particular using agent-based modelling, digital traces, and generative artificial intelligence.
He is the leader of Work Package 4, which develops a digital twin of online platforms by combining agent based models and large language models.

Taehee Kim has been working as a postdoctoral research associate at the Chair of Social and Behavioral Data Science under Prof. Dr. David Garcia since January 2024. Her research focuses on how citizens’ attitudes and behavior change over time. She obtained her Ph.D. in Political Science from Keio University in Japan, with a focus on the development of political efficacy. Since completing her second master’s degree in Social and Economic Data Analysis (SEDA) at the University of Konstanz, her research has especially focused on citizens’ behavior in online spaces, such as the spread of hate speech and misinformation.
In the WHAT-IF project, she will contribute to WP4, developing a “digital twin” using agent-based simulation incorporating LLMs.

Giordano De Marzo is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Konstanz, where he is part of the Computational Social Science Lab. Before his employment in Konstanz, he wa a doctoral student at Enrico Fermi Research Center, at the Physics department of Sapienza University and at Sapienza School for Advanced Studies. His work focuses on the modelling and study of Complex Digital Systems, with a focus on Large Language Models. His current research involves studying emergent collective behaviors in societies of Large Language Models such as ChatGPT.
In the WHAT-IF project, he will work on the agent-based simulation incorporating LLMs in WP4.
