The Institute for Information Law (IViR) is a research institute within the Faculty of Law of the University of Amsterdam (UvA), and is one of the largest research centres in the field of information law in the world. IViR engages in cutting-edge research to advance the development of information law. 

About the team

Prof. Dr. Natali Helberger is Distinguished University Professor of Law and Digital Technology, with a focus on informational law, legal and ethical aspects of synthetic content, policy simulations, and evidence-based policy making

Natali is member of Steering Committee and leader of WP 6.

Max van Drunen is a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Information Law at the University of Amsterdam. His research focuses on the regulation of algorithms used to produce and distribute news and political speech.

He contributes to work package 6 of the WHAT-IF project, where he develops a theoretical framework on the role of simulations in platform governance, and identifies the conditions that need to be in place to ensure the legitimacy of such simulations.
