Last week, our international consortium—bringing together academics and practitioners from 15 organizations across 10 countries—gathered in Amsterdam for the official kick-off of the WHAT-IF project. Our goal? To use panel surveys, data donations, and immersive field experiments to build a digital twin of the political information environment in four European countries, allowing us to test the impact of policy interventions.

Hosted by Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, our two-day meeting set the stage for this ambitious research initiative. We mapped out the progress and roadmap of each work package, tackled potential challenges, and leveraged our interdisciplinary expertise to lay a strong foundation for the work ahead.
